New Amazon Echo Dot – Should you get one?

Today, I noticed that I could pre-order the Amazon Echo Dot. However, I had to ask my current Amazon Echo to buy it – that’s something new! I’ll do a full Amazon Echo Dot Review as soon as I get it shipped. Go here if you’re looking for my original Amazon Echo Review.

So, what is the Amazon Echo Dot?

Amazon Echo Dot

It’s basically a small Amazon Echo. It’s very small! It’s only 1.5 inches tall, that’s really short! In comparison, the regular Amazon Echo is 9.25 inches tall. But it’s about as wide as the regular Amazon Echo. The Echo Dot is only 3.3 inches wide. To put that into comparison, the Echo Dot is not much bigger than a hockey puck!

The Amazon Echo Dot is not much bigger than a hockey puck!

So, we know that the Amazon Echo Dot is small. What else do we know?

We know that it will do pretty much everything the Amazon Echo does. It will connect to the same apps, the same questions. It has the same far-field recognition that the Amazon Echo does, with 7 microphones.

Here’s what I worry about with the Amazon Echo Dot: the quality of the speakers. It looks like the Echo Dot is meant to listen, not speak. It does have a small speaker, but I’m not expecting the quality of the Amazon Echo, full-size. And neither should you. The Amazon Page talks, in several places, about how you can connect it with other speakers. This leads me to think that the quality of the sound won’t be much better than your speakerphone on your cell phone. As soon as I get it, I’ll do a full review of the Amazon Echo Dot.

I think I’ll keep my Amazon Echo, regular size, in my office and put this Amazon Echo Dot in my bedroom.

When does the Amazon Echo Dot Ship? When I placed my order (through my regular Alexa), it told me it should arrive by March 31st. Be on the lookout for my comprehensive overview of it. Are you going to get one?

Amazon also released the Amazon Echo Tap, which I’ll talk about in another post.

How do you pre-order the Amazon Echo Dot? Just ask your Regular Echo, “Alexa, order an Echo Dot” and she’ll order it for you.

Other questions I have for the Amazon Echo Dot, that I’ll answer in my review:

  • Do you need a full-size Alexa to use the Amazon Echo Dot?
  • How loud is the speaker?
  • How big does it look?
  • How does it sound through speakers?
  • Should you buy an Amazon Echo Dot?
  • Should you buy multiple Amazon Echo Dots?
